Registered Charity: 1074609
We are a branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society and a Registered Charity, run by a committee elected by our members at our Annual General Meeting. Classes are conducted by dance teachers.
General dance classes
We have general dance classes for a range of abilities and experience, and a beginners' class, on Tuesday evenings at Ralph Allen School. We also have a beginners' class, followed by a general class, on Thursday afternoons at Bathampton Village Hall.
We start with warm-up exercises. There are steps and formations to learn, but we'll help you to learn those and experienced dancers will help you, too.
The Bathampton class lasts 3 hours, but people come and go during the afternoon. Simpler dances for the first hour or so suit beginners, followed by more complicated ones.
Join us on Tuesdays or Thursdays or both, as you wish - the more you dance the quicker you’ll learn. You needn’t bring a partner, and you don't even have to be Scottish.
Dances during the year
We hold dances with live music at local halls during the year, which members of other Scottish dance groups attend, too, and we go to the dances they organize.
Shoes and clothes for dancing
Shoes Wearing suitable shoes is important; soft, flat shoes are recommended. We can give you advice to help you to make your choice.
Clothes Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. Dancing makes you warm, so layers you can take off are better than thick clothes. A man needn’t wear the kilt unless he wants to.
What do the classes cost?
You can pay per session (£6 per session in 2017/8) or by subscription. With a subscription, you can come to both the Tuesday and Thursday classes at no extra cost. See our membership form on this website to find out about subscription rates or ask our Membership Secretary.
